A Little History
As a girl I wanted to act, sing, or be a nurse, or an air traffic controller, or soldier, maybe a chemical engineer. After working in stores, being in the Air Force, working in a hospital, and a convention center, there finally came a way to incorporate eclectic interests with my job. Many positions over the years had a large customer service component, and I was glad to keep exercising those skills when meeting customer’s voiceover needs.
There’s been a nagging interest in narration voice over thanks to a fourth-grade teacher who had us put thought into how we read aloud in class. She said something to the effect of, make it interesting and sound as if you’re talking. Don’t just read the words. After watching a lot of documentaries and various shows where the actors had inner monologues, the advice made sense. Whether it was Jacques Cousteau speaking about a half-asleep fish, or Captain Kirk recording his ship’s log, they weren’t just reading a script. They were sending a message.
There are so many things to be said. There are so many ways to say those things. The prospect of working on your projects, delivering your message is exciting.
